ABOUT

Mission City Runners Youth Soccer Club operates as the official competitive youth arm of the semi-professional men’s and women’s San Antonio Runners Soccer teams. San Antonio Runners began in 2018 when members of the UTSA men’s soccer club sought opportunities to compete at higher levels than the collegiate club structure allowed. With the University of Texas at San Antonio not sponsoring NCAA Division I men’s soccer, the organization filled a competitive void in the local landscape from 2018 through 2020.

As participation and competitive ambitions expanded, the program transitioned away from campus operations to secure greater space, independence, and long-term growth. By 2022, the organization added a women’s team and continued building a structured competitive identity within national league environments.

After several years of structured growth with 93 players receiving college scholarships and 7 signing professionally, SA Runners absorbed Mission City YSO in 2024, merging programs to create a vertically integrated system serving players from parent led recreational teams to foundational academy levels and select soccer through advanced competition. Competitive youth programming was formally introduced in 2024 with Mission City Runners teams participating in the United Premier Soccer League Academy Division and independent teams registered under MCYSO Runners through South Texas Youth Soccer Association playing in AAYSA or WDDOA.

Mission City Runners governs competitive local development while national league participation continues under the San Antonio Runners brand. This structure preserves elite competitive identity while strengthening community rooted representation throughout San Antonio.

Mission City’s Multidisciplinary Approach to Elite Athlete Development

Mission City Runners develops complete athletes through a structured multidisciplinary framework integrating physical conditioning, cognitive acceleration, and professional leadership development. Training environments are designed to improve logical reasoning, pattern recognition, spatial awareness, and accelerated decision-making under competitive pressure.

Kinesiology education enhances biomechanical literacy and long-term health awareness. Yoga and structured flexibility sessions improve recovery capacity, emotional regulation, and composure in high-pressure situations. Classroom instruction reinforces professional conduct, discipline systems, accountability standards, and structured team advancement aligned with our internally developed curriculum.

In addition to athletic and cognitive preparation, players receive instruction in business etiquette, communication standards, leadership presence, and professional interaction. Athletes are trained to represent their teams, families, and community with maturity and confidence in academic, athletic, and professional environments.

Are we the Right Club for You?

Mission City Runners creates a challenging, structured environment designed to elevate athletes beyond comfort. We understand that this model is not for every player or family. Our expectations extend beyond the field and require commitment, discipline, and consistency.

Success within our program requires partnership with parents who are willing to reinforce standards, structure, and accountability at home. Habits developed during training must continue off the field in academics, time management, and personal conduct.

Our objective is not simply to develop soccer players, but to cultivate disciplined, confident, and capable individuals prepared for long-term success in athletics, academics, and professional environments.
